A mouth guard or mouthguard is a protective device worn around the teeth and gums to prevent injury. They are common in contact sports. Most mouth guards are only worn on the upper teeth, but some variations cover upper and lower teeth.

  • Ready Made - this type of mouth guard comes as-is and no adjustments are made to fit the user's mouth.
  • Boil-and-Bite - this type of mouth guard is heated with boiling water to soften it and then worn around the teeth to form a better fit. These are preferable to ready-made ones.
  • Custom Made - this type of mouth guard is custom made by a dentist or orthodontist to provide the best possible fit to the individual who will be wearing it. These are also more expensive than the other versions.
