The concept of predator-prey swap is one of the primary focuses of the Viam Chao self-defense system.

An attacker initiates action from the mindset of the predator. They base their attack on the assumption that the victim is their prey. What they do not expect is for the victim to also have the predator mindset. Predator-prey swapping happens when a victim demonstrates aggression and a lack of fear, and in responding to an attack as such, they turn the attacker's mindset from predator to prey. Fear is redirected from the victim and instilled in the attacker. This happens when an attacker realizes they have made a mistake and they are out-matched.
