Striking comprises a substantive amount of focus in Viam Chao. The system uses many of the "standard" strikes found in other systems: punches from boxing, kicks from Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, and Savate, elbow and knee strikes from Muay Thai, headbutts, and a variety of unconventional strikes like open-handed techniques, hammerfists, and even shoulder taps.

Several striking strategies are employed, but some of the main concepts are hard on soft and everything is a target.

Hand and Arm StrikesEdit

Closed Hand StrikesEdit

Open Hand StrikesEdit

Open-hand strikes are stressed early in Viam Chao because of the potential for damage to the hand with closed-hand strikes like punches, especially for people with more delicate skeletal infrastructure in the hand.
